St. Elizabeth of Schoenau
Jesus said to his disciples, “Why are you anxious about clothes? Learn from the way the wild flowers grow. They do not work or spin. But I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was clothed like one of them. If God so clothes the grass of the field, which grows today and is thrown into the oven tomorrow, will he not much more provide for you, O you of little faith?” (Matthew 6: 28-30).
Whenever we buy clothes or sneakers we are usually only interested in “name brands” like Nike, Adidas, Under Armour, etc. We are “anxious about our clothes” as Jesus says here. When you are buying clothes remember those who have nothing and it will be easier to not take the brands so seriously.
Jesus, give me the strength to spend a little less on my clothes so I can do something extra for those in need.
