March 30 - St. John Climacus

And when they came to a place called Golgotha (which means Place of the Skull), they gave Jesus wine to drink mixed with gall. But when he had tasted it, he refused to drink. After they had crucified him, they divided his garments by casting lots; then they sat down and kept watch over him there. And they placed over his head the written charge against him: This is Jesus, the King of the Jews (Matthew 27: 33-37).

Imagine having nails driven through your hands and feet, having thorns crushed into your head and having people stare at you and still make fun of you even after all this. Jesus suffered this and much more. Don’t be indifferent to it. He went through all that so that we would not have to.

Lord, thank you for suffering in my place. I love you, Lord.
