February 10 - St. Scholastica
Jesus said to his disciples: "The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes, and be killed and on the third day be raised." Then he said to all, "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. What profit is there for one to gain the whole world yet lose or forfeit himself? Whoever is ashamed of me and of my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels” (Luke 9: 22-26).
Jesus freely chose to obey his Father and suffer out of love for us. And he suffered more than we could ever comprehend. May we never be ashamed of Jesus who loved us that much. We should be proud to have such a Friend.
Jesus, I want to carry my cross with you. Help me be faithful to you as you were to me.
